In The Know: Mali drops French as official language
French will no longer be the official language of Mali after a referendum vote on June 18th. The country established 13 national languages as official languages and kept French as a working language. Mali has 70 spoken languages that have all been declared national languages since 1982. Anti-France sentiments have been spreading across West Africa due to what has been termed as political and military interference.
