The month has flown by faster than we could have imagined. Of course there have been a lot of developments since the year began. In Nairobi, events are slowly starting to make a comeback, still with COVID protocols in place. Here is what’s happening what to expect and where you should be.

If you have finished all your streaming playlists, saved music on both your phone and laptop, latest hits via Youtube, it may be time for an aural reset. Check out Malian singer Fatou Diawara whose albums soulfully sung in the Malian language Bambara are a much needed balm for a weary soul. You will find yourself swaying to the drums and jazzy guitars, perfect for a Saturday morning, afternoon or evening. The Afrinado recommends her album Fenfo (Something to Say).
Pop Up and Chill in Kilimani
Pop Up and Chill Handmakers market is living up to it’s name and popping up all over Nairobi. From Kiambu Road, Ngong Forest and now, Kilimani. This months event will feature Bundu and Beyond bags, the Cookie Bar, Liafro natural products, food by the Daily Deli and much much more. Pop in at Popote Gardens off Muringa Road, Kilimani. A really dope venue.
In the know: Nigeria bans Money Rituals in Nollywood movies
The Federal Government of Nigeria has moved to ban money rituals and smoking in Nollywood movies. Lai Mohammed, the Information and Culture Minister announced the directive amidst complaints that ritual killers had picked up of the practise which since the 1990s had become a theme staple in Nigerian movies. The directive came a month after a young man, his mother and pastor were charged with the murder of his university girlfriend in a bid to enrich is family.

The coming of age story about a teenage girl growing up in rural Nigeria who rans away to Lagos to become a domestic worker. A New York Times bestseller, the book has been shortlisted for the Desmond Elliot Prize.
